Practical Classes

The following chart gives an overview of the compulsory components of the 'Career Gemmology' program.

There are five practical workshops that must be completed including diamond grading, coloured gemstone grading (including pearls, jadeite and opals) and gem identification in addition to a comprehensive online coloured gemstone grading course.

The diamond grading workshop includes practical instruction on how to clarity and colour grade diamonds, techniques to determine table percentage, crown angle, girdle thickness and pavilion depth percentage, how to assess polish and symmetry and the identification of lab-created and treated diamonds. The coloured gemstone grading workshop includes practical instruction on how to assess the hue, tone and saturation of coloured gemstones and how to grade pearls, jadeite and opals. During this practical class three colour grading systems; GIA, GemDialogue and World of Color will be discussed. For more information on this workshop, please click here.

The online coloured gemstone course consists of a comprehensive overview of the GemeWizard Colour Grading System and includes practical exercises that are completed online and a six month subscription to their program. For more information on this workshop, please click here.

The Gem Identification #1 workshop covers gemstones found in the colourless or white, red, pink, orange, yellow and green colour categories. For more information on this workshop, please click here.

Sessions

Classes run from 11.00am to 2.00pm and 3.30pm to 6.30pm with scheduled coffee/tea breaks of 15 minutes.

All equipment will be provided by the Spanish Gem Academy.
